There is often this misconception that to give you have to give loads of money. If you are in the position to give a lot then definitely do that. If you are in a position to give a little then do what you can.
This year we had the honour to give to Food For The Poor & The Heart Foundation in Jamaica where Roger Philip Lofters & Joan Lofters were born. They encouraged me from a young age to try and do good, and being charitable was one of them. whether in the home or on the road, be kind. This was not a lecture this is just what I saw them do.
Roger Philip Lofters would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year on the 26th of September and my mother Joan who was his first wife celebrated her birthday on the 3rd September this year. This year came around again so quickly without the ability to give the way I really wanted to. Roger taught me the true meaning of kindness and the ability to give, he was a very good friend to those who knew him and a family man. Roger died after being electrocuted at work with over 400,000 volts of electricity, he is sadly missed and remembered by his family.
His humility came from his struggle, pain and difficulties faced along the way, black unity freedom party days, back then were the battles for equality for the black communities and I am very proud to say you were apart of it as you helped and battled your way through. Even though we are a long way away from those days, I still shed tears when I experience some of the same ignorance, the hate he would have received when he came to England, so many years ago. I don't want this write up to be about his struggle or mine today as there were so many amazing days in your life that I was honoured to be a part of, many days filled with laughter at the beach, river and parks. Kingston, St. Andrew was our home but the island was such a beautiful paradise that we did not confine our self to one parish you had to see them all. Weekend trips had me blessed getting to know our island from a young age riding in the back of the pick-up with my brothers and my little sister, those were some good days. You were and are still are my greatest motivation alongside my mother Joan. I hope one day I can do a big memorial in celebration of your life and all the family, extended family and friends can come and remember the man I so proudly call my father, Roger Lofters, may you rest in peace as you tried to live in life. Sending this message out in the universe. Love your daughter Zakiya.
This year I wanted to continue the act of giving back, on behalf of my mother Joan and my father Roger.
Mum, you are stronger than you know.
You know you are, everything was extremely hard, but it was not impossible for you. I saw you lift your hand to help, to care, to feed, to deliver, to assist, and to get the job done.
Mum, you know you are stronger than that.
The days and nights you struggled to pay the bills, but somehow we made it through.

Are you still distracted by the world outside forgetting that you are creating one inside.
I left clues for you along the way, not like breadcrumbs easily misslayed; these were set in stone, and here to stay. I pass by some days, In that thought you think, in a word you spoke, in a drawing you made and that breath of fresh air, reminding you to breathe.
I became the energy through time and space. Leaving a legacy that can never be erased

Because I knew it could get worse I gave thanks for what I had. Because I knew it would get better I wasn’t afraid to ask for more. This has nothing to do with not being content, just everything to do with trying to improve my experience, and life, and get a true understanding while I am here.
